How to set up Sony Bravia TV with Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP) - Ethernet

There are two way to set up Sony Bravia with ZTP:

  • via Ethernet cable;
  • via WiFi (only supported by newer Bravia versions);

Initial setup and installation via Ethernet

The display is set up automatically and the entire installation takes up to 10 minutes (depending on internet speed), without the need for any interaction with the display. It is important not to turn on the display if you do not have the E-MAC address noted in advance. If you have already turned on the display or configured it in any way, perform a factory reset.

If you plan to set up multiple TVs at once, it is recommended to perform the installation gradually, as all TVs respond to one remote control.

1. Connect the display to the internet using an Ethernet cable

For automatic setup, the display must be connected via cable.

2. Note down the Ethernet MAC address of the display

For automatic display setup, it is necessary to input the MAC address (specifically MAC-E, the first line on the white label on the back of the display) into the ScreenManager app.

Warning: Often customers realize they need the MAC-E address only after they have already installed the display. Therefore it is strongly recommended to note the address before the installation, as obtaining the MAC-E address after the display has been mounted on a wall may be difficult.

3. Register the MAC-E address into the ScreenManager application

Log in into your ScreenManager account, click on the Screens tab on the panel to the left and then click "New screen" button. In a new window choose Sony Bravia TV.

And then choose “Use Zero-Touch Provisioning”.

Choose ZTP

In a new window, add the above mentioned MAC-E address as shown in the image below.

Important: Make sure to add the numbers from the code in pairs with “-” in between the pairs.

Enter address

4. If the display has already been turned on / set up before, perform a factory reset

The display must be connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable.

Disconnect the display from power.

Find the button below the "Sony" logo in the bottom center part of the display. Press and hold this button.

Connect the display to electrical power and keep holding the button. After 10 to 30 seconds, the white LED below the Sony logo will start blinking. You can now release the button.

5. Turn on the display

Turn on the display and wait until a QR code with a numerical value appears. Before the code appears, do not perform any actions (such as selecting a language or clicking on the remote control).

Code

Once the code is displayed, enter it into the ScreenManager application.

Enter ZTP code

Warning: The QR and numerical code changes every few minutes, meaning the code needs to be added into the ScreenManager app as soon as possible.

If the TV registration was successful, you will receive a confirmation message.

6. Automatic setup

Our cloud automatically initiates remote setup of the display. This operation may take 5–10 minutes.

Provisioning in progress

If the installation was successful, the TV will reboot itself automatically and will show the screen pairing QR code.

7. Screen pairing QR code

Screen pairing QR

A QR code will appear on the display.

If you scan it, you will be taken to your ScreenManager account, where you’ll only need to name the device (display, 1) and then you can start using our software immediately.

Alternatively, you can add the pairing code into the ScreenManager web administration manually, name the device and start using the software.

Add code

Optionally, you may also set up Device groups (2) and set up screen orientation (3).

Basic screen settings

As well as immediately add a Playlist to your new screen.

Possible problems and their solutions

Error during provisioning

If an error occurs during provisioning and the display recommends restoring factory settings, it is likely that after turning on the display you selected a language or otherwise interfered with the settings using the remote control. In such a case, perform the factory reset again. After turning the display back on, make sure you do not select a language and do not use the remote control (this applies only to the Ethernet provisioning variant).

What happens if I perform a factory reset? Do I need to register the MAC address again?

No, it is not necessary. The MAC address remains registered with Sony, so after starting the display, the "Zero Touch Provisioning" code will appear again.

The only way to deregister the device is to contact our technical support.

Is it possible to use the WiFi MAC address for initial setup?

No, ZTP (zero touch provisioning) only works with the Ethernet MAC address. Therefore, it is always necessary to connect the display using a cable to perform the initial setup.
