How to set up Sony Bravia TV with Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP) - WiFi

There are two way to set up Sony Bravia with ZTP:

Initial setup and installation via WiFi

WiFi ZTP is only supported by newer Bravia versions, so if it is not possible to perform ZTP via Ethernet, it is necessary to update the display firmware first.

1. Note down the Ethernet MAC address of the display

Even for the WiFi setup, it is still necessary to note down the Ethernet MAC address, i.e., MAC-E.

2. Register the MAC-E address into the ScreenManager application

Log in into your ScreenManager account, click on the Screens tab on the panel to the left and then click "New screen" button. In a new window choose Sony Bravia TV.

And then choose “Use Zero-Touch Provisioning”.

In a new window, add the above mentioned MAC-E address as shown in the image below.

Important: Make sure to add the numbers from the code in pairs with “-” in between the pairs.

3. Turn on the display

Steps to follow
  1. Select "English" as the language
    If another language is selected, provisioning will end with the error "Initial setup process error".
  2. If on the next screen you do not see "Quickly setup your TV with Android phone", that means that you probably have an older version of firmware and need to update it according to the instructions here. If you see it - press Skip.
  3. Connect to the internet using your WiFi.
  4. The screen "Get the most out of your TV..." will appear
  5. Now use the remote control to turn off the display using the button and then turn it back on using the button on the remote control.
  6. A QR code and numerical code will appear.

Once the code is displayed, enter it into the ScreenManager application as shown below.

  • If the pairing QR code does not appear, it will be necessary to update the display's firmware. Then perform a factory reset, and now after connecting to WiFi and turning ON/OFF, the pairing code should appear.
  • Warning: The QR and numerical code changes every few minutes, meaning the code needs to be added into the ScreenManager app as soon as possible.

If the TV registration was successful, you will receive a confirmation message.

4. Automatic setup

Our cloud automatically initiates remote setup of the display. This operation may take 5–10 minutes.

If the installation was successful, the TV will reboot itself automatically and will show the screen pairing QR code.

5. Screen pairing QR code

A QR code will appear on the display.

If you scan it, you will be taken to your ScreenManager account, where you’ll only need to name the device (display, 1) and then you can start using our software immediately.

Alternatively, you can add the pairing code into the ScreenManager web administration manually, name the device and start using the software.

Optionally, you may also set up Device groups (2) and set up screen orientation (3).

Possible problems and their solutions

Exiting PRO mode

If the display does not respond to the remote control or settings cannot be opened due to the error message "Application is not available", it means the display is already in PRO mode. You need to exit this mode using the following steps.

WiFi settings

If the display is in PRO mode, exit it first.

To access WiFi settings, go to (Settings) > Network & Ethernet > enable WiFi and select a network.

Error "Couldn't find <network name>"

This error occasionally occurs if the display is connected to the internet via Ethernet cable. After disconnecting the cable, the display will connect to the WiFi network.

Possible problems during installation:

  • A language other than English was selected at the beginning of the installation.
  • After connecting to the Wi-Fi network, the OFF / ON button was pressed not on the remote control, but directly on the TV.

Solution:

Perform a factory reset. During installation, select English. After connecting to the Wi-Fi network, turn off the TV and immediately turn it back on using the remote control.

What happens if I perform a factory reset? Do I need to register the MAC address again?

No, it is not necessary. The MAC address remains registered with Sony, so after starting the display, the "Zero Touch Provisioning" code will appear again.

The only way to deregister the device is to contact our technical support.
